MAIN DESIGN
Dnipro Cliffs 2.0: Futu Life has an aim to become the first city in Ukraine to promote high technologies to achieve true values of sustainable development. The idea of the Dnipro Cliffs 2.0 is based on the creation of a powerful cultural component, which includes museums of Trypillia, Rus (the surrounding area is rich in archaeological finds) and aerospace technology; medical, health and biomedical centre; recreation complex with a hotel, promenade and restaurant with an underwater part on the shore; and the it-cluster both as the main activity and as an anchor attractor of permanent residents. The decentralized sections of Futu Life will be connected by a cable car. One of the promising concepts is the use of citizens’ own cryptocurrency.
MORPHOGENESIS
In Dnipro Cliffs 2.0 buildings are low-rise and maximally integrated into the terrain. Their green roofs in many cases are a continuation of the real terrain and green ramps. The Museum of Rus is a triangulated structural shell that allows to cover a large area above the excavations with a translucent roof. Kindergarten also has a similar structural concept to provide children with the need for sunlight indoors (because horizontal translucent structures give 3 times more light than vertical walls). The Museum of Aerospace Technology has a green roof with bubbles. Between the bubbles there is a place for picnics and reading on the grass on the roof of the building. The school is like a slice of the relief. On its roof, junior students will become closer to nature by joining the principles of ecological gardening. The wood-paved promenade coexists with a biodiversity technology centre with a river basin and an underwater restaurant. The relief is terraced by the hotel, and the retail patio includes a cable car station.
SUSTAINABILITY
Futu Life’s priorities are green construction from recyclable materials, sustainable transport and alternative generation. To become the standard for ecological construction, Dnipro Cliffs 2.0 uses the principles of the “cradle to cradle” concept, where each material used can be either recycled or reused. Pedestrians, bicycles, public and shared (sharing) electric transport – this is the priority of the transport scheme of the innovative city. Futu Life should generate energy from alternative sources no less than it consumes, It should set an example for other settlements in Ukraine in terms of autonomy and zero carbon footprint. Multi-comfort will be provided by the maximum of daylight (double-glazed windows that are sun-protected on the south side and do not emit heat on the north side), high-quality air ventilation with energy-saving recovery and climate-regulating heat pumps. Green roofs will help the microclimate and reduce the risk of flooding after rainfall.
