MAIN CONCEPT

Thus cardioTower has 6 levels for different health conditions. The idea is to achieve climbing on the top with a pulse rate under 140. Besides, cardioTower provides rest/view spots on the top of each level. Snacks, amphitheater for cinema/ performance, ping-pong, greenery, view point and stunning panoramic view on the highest level are entertaining people during their daily training.
In general, cardioTower speculates on real values and use computational (parametric) methods to transform these values into form.

COMPUTATIONAL METHODS

technically speaking cardioTower consists of two main structural parts, inner supporting frame ( shukhov-like structure ) and outer stairs and cantilevering view points.
The highest ascent provides dynamic stairs as well as regular static ones. Dynamic stairs process up and down movements allowing people to walk on horizontal flat plane. It also makes possible to get to the top for not the most trained persons. Dynamic steps is an option that uses servo-motors and vertical rails to move along. One more option is to install an elevator inside the tower. It could allow only going down movement to protect health function of cardioTower or it could be used only for maintenance and or fire/medical services.

Office interior for one of the biggest Ukrainian retail companies. The project area is 3000 m2. The main task was to provide sunlight and insolation in spaces with ceiling 5.6m height. The additional task was to create space, where people can work with pleasure and have some rest. It was decided to create ылнlightы and glass partitions in order to create second levels and maximize area utilization. This was crucial in spaces where сompactness were more important then flatness. Relax and activity zones were designed for workers’ rest and productivity.

GENERAL CONCEPT

In this project the team had to work with a semi-basement room in an old building with multiple challenges and constrains. The main goal was to create a space that is comfortable for work, loosing the feeling of basement room and organizing convenient relax zones.
In order to increase the labor comfort a ventilation system that spread almost under all ceilings was created. Due to narrow space we made a decision not to cover air pipes with dead constructions but to let them pass optimal ways and be a part of multilevel spatial ceiling geometry. Color design as well as ribs and cables system descending and interacting with the obstacles and context where needed allowed to make pipes almost invisible and created a distinct visual identity. Ceiling painted in dark color became an extraordinary solution that helped to make it kind of weightless.

COMPUTATIONAL / ALGORYTHMIC METHODS OF MORPHOGENESIS

Spatial and planar patterns that made the office more solid were developed on the base of context-sensitive systems. In this particular case the arrangement of key functional areas and main light sources were taken as a context. The initial rigid grid deformed avoiding attractor-points.
No wonder the interference into cables metric series happens in places of dipping into workflow / over workplaces / here the process is similar to the streamlined body immersion into a tranquil liquid. Ropes serve isolines, emphasizing the elongated plan shape of the entire office, where one room flows seamlessly into another, while edges located athwart and painted same color as the ceiling help to create a three-dimensional geometry, serving barely noticeable frame.

Once getting into office visitor finds himself in a distributing space, where it is possible to leave the outerwear in the closet, while patternized mirror on the beveled wall leads guests to the reception and then to one of the cabinets, meeting room. Or to WC, kitchen or resting room.

The entrances to offices and conference room are concentrated in the reception area.

Meeting room separated by a partition with translucent parametric pattern on the glass is located directly in front of waiting area. This allows to get as much light from all sources as possible. Visual communication also eliminates the feeling of narrowness. The glass pattern lets focus on the most interesting details due to its unevenness.

Reception geometry follows the principle of ceiling patterns formation bending inside on passage and extending space at the level of the human knee. Placing it diagonally allowed to create a comfortable transit.

Нeight fluctuations of the ceiling construction became reasonable by placing attractors on the tables, where a person does not need a full height. At the same time curved cables and hanging lamps on a dark background look impressive.

The room is equipped with four specialist workplace which are separated convenient cabinets and screens.

Due to the gradient background pattern on the walls slowly dissolves merging with the ceiling while bright color at the bottom part of it makes it cheerful.

When the kitchen is closed the room can be used for any purpose.

Primarily arrangement of windows that could partially provide daylight in offices influenced planning. Bathroom and storeroom location was caused by the engineering communications situated near the entrance as well as kitchen with access to the winter garden which was formed around the distribution and additional rooms. Areas in the deep received light through large windows / doors from the courtyard and glass partition in a meetings room.

Signature Garden Kyiv

Signature Garden on Mechnykova street is a space on the roof of shopping mall between towers of Signature residential complex. A yard of 6000 sq m is simultaneously a green roof and provides various functions for residents as summer pond; intellectual fountain zone with “God mode”(in which water smoothly gives way to man); pavilion that faces Parus business center, zone with projections that interact with people; kids playground; mobile benches and trees in tubs for personal shadow creation; a cave, in which performances will take place, and will be also seen from restaurant; three viewing platforms; space for art with permanent and temporary exhibitions. Extensive landscaping is an important stroke in Signature garden.

70 Years Later: Recharge

interior design moscow - computational architecture70 Years Later: Recharge is an interior design in Moscow, that represents studio-apartment with two bedrooms. Kitchen and living room / dining room can be connected with each other and are separated with mobile sliding partitions. The lightning stripe envelopes zones of human location in apartment providing distributed lighting and emphasising on transits between zones. Furniture, particularly in bedroom and hallway, make people`s transits more fluent.

noMad project designed in AA DRL by Dmytro Aranchii, Paul Bart, Flavia Santos and Yuqiu Jiang during 16 month research 2013-2015. Work is based on modular robotic ideology and seeks for its appliance in architecture. noMad is the architectural behavioral assembly system that has attributes of autonomy, mobility, ability to communicate and make decisions. This research is not about one finite result but rather uncountable amount of variations, about approach how to create any space and adopt it to changing conditions without influence from outside and control by human.

Recently Ukraine has been ignoring the question of a worthily representation of of the national pavilion at the World Expo, so our proposal is an attempt to break the trend and represent the state in terms of the openness of social and economic development, which is reflected in construction sensitivity (adaptivity) to the environment and visitors. Being open to changes and be transparent in its` implementation – is the slogan with which we support our vision, offering Ukraine Pavilion architecture, while emphasizing on the universality of exposition.

Ukrainian Pavilion Expo 2015

Pavilion prototype for the Milan World Expo 2015 is called to demonstrate benefits of modular construction, flexible computational design methods and the limitless possibilities of artificial stone.

World EXPO 2010 in Shanghai, where, in our opinion, Ukraine has not shown 20 million visitors a worthy attitude to the exhibition served as a background for the pavilion development. Prior to the proposal of a full scale pavilion the reduced prototype with an area of 15 m2 and volume of approximately 30 m3 was designed.

Computational / parametric architecture stays very close to contemporary theory of algorithms. We have already implemented cellular automata and particularly game of life in architectural project Fashion Design Museum in Kyiv, 2009. Current project designed within the Architectural Association (AADRL) was aimed to go deeply into cellular automata theory and practice and to define the strategies of control the self-organizing system and to find the directions of usage in architectural design. Implementation of the algorithm for space tessellated into truncated octahedrons instead of usual cubic voxels also became a contribution into cellular automata research.

Kyiv Passanger Train Depot Renovation. Parametric Architecture

Parametric architecture makes understanding of complicated processes easier. Kyiv Passenger Train depot is a huge area that can and should be used today for the Kiev benefit. In addition to converting the space that is now used inefficiently, into the favorite leisure place for urban residents, the project pursues a second very important purpose – to connect Chokolivka and Polytechnic Institute neighborhoods that are now cut apart, belonging to the Shevchenkivskyi and Solomianskyi Kyiv districts. Pedestrian access will allow direct communication, while bike paths set arrangement will rise bicyclization of the capital on a new level, creating a strong local center of health and ecology.

By agreement with the client it transformed into studio with a separate bedroom. Our studio is interested in working with small area, as the problem of small apartment design turns out more attractive than large one, it becomes a challenge to analytical and artistic abilities of architects to put everything compactly and correctly in a modest area.

COMMON CONCEPT
Apartment for Urlivska – a practical implementation of the theory of parametric architecture, follows our previous project Octopus tentacles. Open Space combines living room with kitchen and dining area. In the system of connected spaces kitchen island plays a separation role, especially between cooking and dining areas. Islet emphasizes the freely-based hood that forms the visual vertical axis around which transits occur.
Breaking the wall between the living room and the child room allowed placing a bed without losing an area for child`s activities. At the same time in open space it enabled arrangement of storage for master’s wine collection.

ALGORITHMIC / PARAMETRIC METHODS OF MORPHOGENESIS
Parametric curves also took part in Magnetic Field morphogenesis, but unlike our project Apartment for Classmate, where lines influenced modular formation of individual elements of the interior. In Magnetic Field lines create the fundamental geometry accented on the rooms’ ceilings. Light stripes serve two purposes:
1. Compensation of missing daylight during the night
2. The formation of smooth transits between rooms
Therefore LED stripes lights (purchase of which is investment in efficient energy consumption) have their origin in the window or door openings.

Kyiv Culture Space on Andriivskyi Descent Architectural Concept

The competition for young architects on the Andriivskyi descent aimed to create an architectural concept of Yunist factory former site development, out of 1 hectare the competition terms determined the cultural space as 10-15 per cent of the area linked to the Andriivskyi descent, and the rest of it was for commercial use. The competiton on the Andriivskyi provided the design of multifunctional cultural space with integrated chamber music hall.
